Friends don’t let friends do HTiB - not when there are affordable options for a complete home theater speaker system. I recently did a review of the Classic Two speaker system by NHT for Audioholics.com. Based out of California, NHT has become a leading speaker manufacturer in the US. It produces high end options, but also more affordable speaker systems that dip into mainstream price ranges. Overall, they’re good products at comfortable prices.
Technically the speakers in the Classic Two system are ‘budget’ speakers, at least for NHT. Personally I wouldn’t call a $2,000 bookshelf speaker system 'budget', but NHT attracts a lot of serious hi-fi enthusiasts with their higher end lines.

There's nothing unusual about a father who's eager to show off pictures of his kids and rave about how great they are. In truth, we're not talking about little people at all. What was most mind-blowing was the very effective pseudo-surround from almost any stereo or multichannel source. I at first thought I had enabled the SRS TruSurround in the Samsung, but discovered that the particular option was off (using either the menu or just pressing the SRS button on the remote) and what I was hearing was the generic Virtual Surround circuit built into the Oppo DVD player. The most enveloping surround - with imaging on the sides and even behind in some cases - came unexpectedly on the original soundtrack music in stereo for some of the silent films in the Kino DVD set I just reviewed. I later turned off the surround option in the Oppo and tried the one provided in the Samsung - which wasn’t quite as noticeable.

I’m not suggesting that anyone going for this display should forego the usual addition of a complete six-speaker home theater speaker system including subwoofer. That is always going to be the ultimate accompaniment to the HDTV display, whether it is a large or small one. However, if space/decor/money/time considerations rear their ugly heads, you could do worse than investing in a pair of the tiny Orb speakers and accompanying subwoofer plus a simple stereo amp, and use the pseudo-surround feature to fill out the HT soundfield.

The Home Theater Magazine survey is officially over and while I haven’t know who is the winner of the Boston Acoustics MicroSystem.

The Vice President of retail analysis and development in NY told me it was incredible: “You’ve received 1,800 responses in the first two hours”. I explained to him that home theater enthusiasts are a passionate people.

Another really gratifying finding is that more than half of the respondents have been reading us from 4-12 years continuously…and most of you think that it has improved over the last two years. No, just no one really have lives outside of this!

I’m reading the entire survey and collating the respondents comments sections to fine-tune what most of you want to see more about home theater speaker system and home theater stereo in the months ahead.

Major consumer electronics (CE) maker Panasonic has announced plans to release its first Blu-ray disc player long with new audio receiver and home theater speaker system in September. While the company is behind Samsung and Sony with the Blu-ray player debut, it will still remain among the first companies to offer the new tech in the U.S.

Panasonic did not unveil many details about the Blu-ray disc player.
Panasonic DMP-BD10 will cost $1299.95 in the U.S., which is about $300 more expensive compared to players from Samsung and Sony, but still $200 more affordable compared to the Blu-ray disc player from Pioneer.

The Osaka, Japan-based maker of consumer electronics will sell the DMP-BD10 separately, however, in conjunction to it, it would also make available matching receiver (SA-XR700) for $999 and speaker system (SB-TP1000) for $2999.95. Additionally, the firm said it would release a new 65” plasma display (TH-65PX600) with 1080p resolution in fall 2006. Panasonic is the first CE producer, which is to offer Blu-ray disc player along with the other products necessary for watching movies on BDs.

Expert creates theater systems for the family

Home theater. Everybody has their own definition. It can be as simple as a big-screen television with a couple of recliners, or a 50-inch plasma television accompanied by a 5-foot-by-8-foot projection screen surrounded by stadium seating.

Doug Van Arsdale, owner of Custom Home Theater Speaker System out of Sharpsburg, creates the latter.

Van Arsdale has a background in construction and a knack for electronics.

"I've always been into connecting things and fixing things," Van Arsdale said. "I figured why not integrate my love for electronics and stereo with construction, into a full-time gig."

Since starting the business in 2000, Van Arsdale and his team have created more than 1,000 home theater systems in the Atlanta area.

Some rooms are dedicated private cinemas, where most of the electronics — including the television, video, stereo, lights and even heating and air-conditioning — are controlled by one remote.

Besides installing home theater equipment, Van Arsdale's business also offers interior design, where a decorator helps clients select the best color for the room, seating, whether it be stadium style or a sectional sofa, lighting and construction.

Of course, this all comes at a price. Dedicated theater rooms can range from $12,000 to $100,000.

Peachtree City resident John Hautala hired Van Arsdale to create a combination media and theater room.

The installation included a 50-inch plasma television, drop down 5-foot-by-8-foot screen, plus a closet full of electronics with game equipment such as XBox and PlayStation.

Before work started, Hautala had a particular request.

"One of the earlier requirements was to have one remote that controls everything, from the television to the audio to the video to the lights in the room," Hautala said. "That way I knew my wife would be able to use it, too."

Hautala admits the system wasn't cheap but would rather not divulge the amount.

"Some might say I'm half-foolish for spending that kind of money and I'd agree with them," Hautala said. "But you just do it because you want to."

Speakers placement suggestions

One of my customer want to renovate his TV room. He want to install a home theater speaker System.

I already installed ceilling speaker in the kitchen, dinning room and the living room. He want in ceilling speaker in that room too. Look for the green circle near the foyer.

My question about rear surround speakers placement:

The room is about 10 by 18. On the room drowing, speakers are in light blue. Should I install on the wall speakers and at what height? Or in ceilling rear surround speakers?

My question about center speakers placement:

We will install an 40" LCD TV over the fireplace. At first i was planning to install the center speaker just over the fireplace, under the LCD. But my client want an LCD wall mount that can pan, tilt, swivel and have some Height adjustment. He want to be able to lower the LCD Panel when not using the fireplace to have a more natural Height.

I don't know if there are wall mount system that can do this? And if yes, when he will lower the panel, the front speaker will get behind the screen. I think that the speaker should be install with the LCD on the wall mount so that both the LCD and the center speaker move the same way.

Any products idea?
